Become a BKL Ski Coach!

Coach Emily with the Arctic Foxes.

Do you know how to skate ski in addition to classic?  Do you enjoy spending time with kids?  Consider becoming a BKL Ski Coach with MNC!  We currently need a few more coaches for our Jack Rabbits and Arctic Foxes programs. Coaching these kids is quite fun;  you will learn a lot more about skiing, get great exercise every week, and give back to your ski community.

We teach our coaches how to teach skiing, and our coaches are provided detailed lesson plans to help guide every practice. To thank you for your coaching, MNC provides you with a credit that you can use towards any MNC program.  In addition, you get an MNC coaching jacket and free Range access any time MNC is present.

MNC BKL programs take place at the Camp Ethan Allen Training Site (The Range) in Jericho on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practice begins at 3:45 and ends at 5:15, with coaches ideally arriving at 3:30 or earlier.

If you are interested in coaching and would like to learn more, please contact Rosemary Shea-Cobb at:

Thanks!

BKL Practice 3/16: Awards Day

Thank you Parents!

We did it! We carried out a whole season of skiing without a COVID case. We are down to our last day of BKL practice and I just want to say “thank you” to all the parents and caregivers out there who did such a great job following all our COVID protocols, keeping kids  at home out of “an abundance of caution” for various reasons, getting kids to practice and picking them up on time, and generally trusting us with the safety of your kids during a pandemic. I think I speak for all the coaches when I say that we had a lot of fun with your kids out on the trails at Bolton. We think they all improved their skiing tremendously and I hope they all had fun!

Practice 3/16: Penguins Classic, Everyone else Skate

Weather– what luck- a high of 34, and 3-4 new inches of powder on Sunday!

We will do some skiing, play some COVID safe games, and have some fun with the tow ropes. Then we will all gather in our respective groups to do our award ceremonies. Penguins will receive special lollipops. Jack Rabbits, Arctic Foxes and Racers will be awarded hand-made medals and certificates.

End of Season Survey

Please take a moment to fill out the Winter Program Survey so we can continue to improve our program. Thank you!

Bolton will still be open for skiing

Although it will be our last day of BKL practice, Bolton will still have snow and still be open for at least a couple more weeks, so you can continue to come and ski. You can check out their conditions on their Website.

Next Year-Keep your eye on the E-blast!

All news and updates are posted in our weekly e-blast, which you should get in your email because you are a member. Registration for BKL usually opens in mid-October. Ski swaps happen beginning in late September. Ski rentals happen in October as well. I will also be coaching a once-per-week BKL Rollerskiing program in the fall. These things will all be highlighted in our e-blast as well as posted on our website.

BKL Practice 3/09-3/14

Tuesday 3/09: Penguins Classic, Everyone else Skate

Warm temps return this week which will be nice after last Thursday’s blustery blast.

It’s Bolton Scavenger Hunt day for Penguins! For everyone else, we will probably do some fun relays!

Thursday 3/11: Classic Backcountry Day

Bring your no-wax skis or skins if you have them. I will bring some warm weather Klister for waxable skis.  All groups will head out to explore the backcountry.

Weekend Racer Practices have ended

With the racing season culminating with the BKL Mini-Fest, we will have no more organized weekend practices.

Be sure to check out my Race Blog post about the BKL Mini-Fest held this past weekend. Photos and a link to race results.
