BKL Training 1/19 – 1/21

Training this Week:

Tuesday 1/19: Skate sking and wax clinic. The wax clinic will be for BK Racers, Jack Rabbits aged 11 and older, and parents. We will split our time between skate skiing and waxing. All the Penguins and Jack Rabbits aged 10 years and younger will ski the entire time.

For the wax clinic, please bring your classic skis to practice waxing. Bring your skate skis to ski on!

Thursday 1/21:  Duathlon Practice & Classic skiing:  Everyone bring both skate skis & poles and classic skis & poles.  Get your classic skis waxed up when you get there (or check the blog on Wed night for a wax recommendation). We will classic ski and then practice changing equipment in a transition zone.  Wear combi boots or talk to your coach and choose between your skate and classic boots. We will try using just our skate poles and we will try switching poles as well.

This Weekend:  MNC Duathlon on Sunday Jan. 24 at Craftsbury!  Everyone is welcome to race. Please pre-register online at www.skireg.com by 9 PM Thursday (price goes up for day of race registration).  See skireg listing for all event info including times and distances.  BKL Race registration opens at NOON. Bring cookies/snacks to share for after the race.  Feel free to e-mail Coach Rosemary with questions:  sheacobb19@gmail.com

*Parents- We are still looking for volunteers to help with timing, transition zone, and bib collection. Please consider volunteering to help make this race run well!  E-mail Christine Massey-Bierman at christine.massey@uvm.edu

BKL Training 1/14

Classic technique tomorrow!  We will have wax benches out and kick wax ready, and the grooming crew will try to set some tracks on the manmade loop.

If you have waxable skis, bring them inside the walker building to wax. If you have time to wax at home, iron in some binder and then put on a couple of layers of swix extra blue (V40) or toko red.

See you tomorrow!

Junior Athlete Profiles

With the heart of the season fast approaching, our younger racers will be competing and travelling all over New England (and beyond). There will be many great performances and memorable times to keep track of…Yesterday after training everyone took some time to fill out an “athlete profile”. Now, fans of the MNC Pugs will get to know a little more about the athletes themselves besides the name on the results sheet.

Answers provided were edited only for spelling and not content (…mostly). This was intended for our high school team members, but we let the older BKL athletes who were around get in on the action, too! If you were not at practice yesterday, Coach Adam will have more profile cards on-hand…or, send your responses to the prompts below to me via email: adamRterko@gmail.com. Some of these photos (Tim, Eliza, Kai) came to us from the Bishop Family photography studios…thanks Andy and Daria!

BK Race, Jackrabbits & Penguins

Don’t let the rain and thunder fool you…the snowmaking loop at the Range should survive! We hope everyone had a great weekend and maybe even got some extra skiing in! Those that weren’t racing the Middle School races at U-32 this weekend were out at Trapps  on Saturday. Ava competed in the Race to the Cabin while others got in a nice long ski!
