BKL Programs, Training Week of 1/3/17

16-17 BKL New Years Eve Ski

Lots of BKL kids & parents joined us for a New Year’s Eve ski to the Charley’s Cabin at Craftsbury.  The snow was great and so were the cookies!

Practice this coming week!

Tuesday 1/3:  Technique: Skate. Bring your raincoat and a dry shirt!

Thursday 1/5: Technique: Check back on Wednesday- we may go classic.

Friday Foxes 1/6: Friday Foxes are planned to be on at the Range at 3;45.  Watch for updates later this week or contact Eden (eden_shullenberg@hotmail.com) with questions.

Event: Sunday, 1/8: Stowe Nordic Enduro.  This is a broken 10 or 15km, freestyle, timed event. You can stop after each segment. I recommend this event for BKL skiers 5th grade and up and younger skiers who are comfortable skiing 10 km with stops.  Parents can sign-up too.  Registration $20. For more info & to register: Stowe Nordic Enduro. Registration deadline 1/7.

BKL 2-Day, 3-Day & DEVO Training, Week of 12/13

We adjusted pole straps, learned how to kick and glide wax and even got out for some games on skis on Tuesday and had a fun practice on just enough snow at Mill River Park on Thursday. The three day crew had a great time up at Craftsbury on Saturday, skiing on some awesome snow and practicing race tactics.

Training Week of 12/13

Tuesday & Thursday Skiers: SKATE technique at the Range!

Please LABEL all your child’s skis and poles with their name! Lots of kids have similar equipment and it’s easy to mistake someone else’s for yours if there is no name visible.

Friday Foxes: tbd still waiting on specifics from Coaches.

Sunday: 3-Day Skiers & Everyone who wants to race:  BKL Skate RACE at Craftsbury. Coach Rosemary will be there to help kids warm up and preview the course. Meet her on skis at 1:20 pm outside the Touring Center.    E-mail Rosemary if you are going!

For details: Eastern Cup BKL Race

*PLEASE Check back here (BKL Blog) on Tuesday morning to make sure we haven’t changed our venue at the last minute.

UPDATE: BKL 2-day, 3-day and DEVO- Bring Rock Skis!

In addition to all the other things I asked you to bring, wear your ski boots and bring any rock skis you have- preferably skate, but classic no-wax are fine too.  FYI- Rock skis are old skis that you won’t mind getting scratched up.

There is snow at the Range, but they are not able to groom it because they feel their grooming machine will go right through to the pavement. So, we’ll pack it down by skiing and we can play games on skis in the fields.

Wax clinic is still on and we will do that first.
