Lamoille Rail Trail Group Ride 6/9

All MNC members and friends are welcome to join us for a fun group ride on the Lamoille Rail Trail.  This packed gravel trail runs on flat terrain for roughly 15 miles from the  Cambridge Trailhead to Morrisville.  There are several locations along the route for people to start for a shorter route or add detours to make it longer.

The plan is to meet at the Cambridge Trail Head at 9:30 AM.  Groups will be formed and hopefully converge for lunch and beverages at Lost Nation around 11;30.

To stay up to date with any last minute plans please join the #sunday-cycle group on our new Slack workspace.

Welcome to the Catamount Community Forest

In the coming weeks, MNC Masters will be transitioning to our Summer training which includes a  Thursday evening running group that will meet at the Catamount Community Forest.  While wait for the trails to dry out, we wanted to make our members were aware of the big changes happening in Williston.

So in case you haven’t heard.

The town of Williston recently bought Catamount Outdoor Family Center for public use. Catamount Outdoor Family Center will still operate on the property, managing customer service,  programming and trail maintenance.

With this transition Pedestrian use (walking, running and snowshoeing) is now free when the trails are open and  mountain bike memberships have never been lower.  Also both the Tues Night Trail Series  and Wed Night Mountain Bike Series  have undergone rate reductions.

The trails are presently closed to traffic and are drying out. They hope to re-open at the end of April, weather permitting.

Below is a clip from NBC News, which covered the details of the transaction last week.

UVM Fun Day!

An afternoon of fun in the sun with the UVM Ski Cats!

Ahh sunshine! We all relished in it last Tuesday when the UVM Cats came to ski with us! It was one of those perfect March ski days- not too warm, but sunny and just warm enough to soften things up a little so it wasn’t icy at all.  MNC graduates Henry Harmeyer and Greg Burt were among the Cats who came to ski with us. Both these guys grew up skiing BKL with MNC and attended many UVM Fun Days as BKLers. What a great thing it was to see them sharing their enthusiasm and love for skiing! They and their team mates built an awesome Nordic Cross course with a little jump for us, played sharks and minnows with us and taught us a new game- Catch the Wolf! (We will be sure to add that one to our repertoire next year). Thanks so much UVM Nordic Ski Team and Head Coach Pat Weaver!

US Biathlon National Championships – Volunteers Needed

EABC is excited to be hosting the US Biathlon National Championships on March 29, 30, and 31 (yes, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we have snow). There will be Sprint races on Friday, Pursuit on Saturday and Mass Start on Sunday (Senior Men and Women will race a Super Sprint on Sunday!). As many of you know, hosting these events is both an honor and a challenge that depends on the volunteer efforts of a large group of generous individuals. What better way to see these races than as a volunteer. Training is provided and no experience needed. We need a lot of volunteers to make these races a success and continue the reputation we have for hosting high caliber and great events. Volunteers will be assigned to either the timing crew, Range, or penalty area (lonely but necessary, we will try not to put you here more than once). We are happy and thankful to have your help for one or two of these days. Volunteers will need to be there from approximately 8:30AM to noon. Snacks and a thank you gift (buff’s this year) for everyone who volunteers 2 or 3 days.

There is also a banquet on Saturday night that volunteers are invited to attend as our guest. Wood fired pizza and guest speaker John Morton. Hope we will see you at the end of March. Please let me know if you are able to help with this event.

To volunteer or find out more please email John Madigan at eabiathlon@gmail.com.
