Eastern Cup Update: SKATE SPRINT

The classic sprint schedule for the EC Opener has been changed to freestyle. All notes about warmup, arrival and preparation (as discussed in Adam’s Virtual Team Meeting ) remain the same, aside from the fact that this now allows athletes more time to focus on warmup without the hassle of finalizing kick wax.

Friday Foxes

Friday 12/18

The plan is to meet by the baseball dugout behind the school at 3:40. Last week we did some dryland, sharks and minnows, and a great game of soccer. Also, Eric Barker and Seth Friedman lead a walk through the woods to familiarize parents and kids with the trail network.  We will do more of the same this Friday and will add in hot chocolate once it gets cold enough!

Coach Rosemary’s Tip of the Week:  Do your kids ever forget to pack their gloves, or ski boots or…?  There is a lot of gear to pack everyday they go to practice.  Post a list of what they need to pack for practice on their cubby (or where ever they will see it- pinned to their gear bag is another good spot) and they may forget things less often. Here is the list I use, but you can customize it to suit your child’s needs.

Pack for Ski Practice:

Ski Boots

Ski Gloves

Hat

Ski Socks

Base Layer Top & Bottom

Ski pants/tights

Fleece

Wind Jacket

Buff

Extra shirt (for after practice)

Water

Snack

Eastern Cup USSA Membership

MNC athletes and parents may have noticed the new rules mandating a USSA licence for racing in NENSA Eastern Cup Races. The official write-up can be seen here:

USSA Membership for Eastern Cups

ECUSSA

For most MNC Juniors, the most reasonable option is the $15 “General” membership. This is all that is needed to race Eastern Cups all season. If an athlete qualifies for Junior Nationals, that $15 can count toward a $95 “Competitor” licence which is mandatory for that championship event.

When signing up, select the “Cross-Country General” option, not the U-16 Competitor option (even if the athlete in question is in the U-16 age group). This will ensure you are only charged $15. In the drop-down club menu, select “unaffiliated” for now (not Mount Mansfield Ski Club…that’s not us!).

Happy racing!

Masters Training 12/15 – 12/17

Congrats to all the Masters who competed in the inaugural MNC SkiErg 500m Challenge! Times are posted right next to the Ergs and remember…if you arrive early there’s no hard in putting in some double poling time!

Beer and ski ties...for an event as brutal as a SkiErg race you just need some extrinsic motivation!

When the prizes are beers wrapped in Toko ski ties, you are sure to get a fierce competition!

World Cup-worthy podium shot!

Training this week

12/15 – Dynamic warmup followed by continuous bounding intervals, choice of shorter course or longer course! Ending with balance drills and group core exercises.

12/17 – Alternating group skiwalking/running with poles and group circuits. This week we will change up circuits and structure them so that each exercise is done together by the group at the same time! There will also hopefully be some music!

12/19-20 – NENSA Eastern Cup Openers! Racing Masters might want to get some racing in with this high-level event…a chance to go head-to-head with Junior, Collegiate and other Masters racers!
