Climb to the Castle 2016

10 MNC skiers, 1 large mountain, and a mass start race to the top! The Pug Squad drove over to Lake Placid on Saturday a got in a nice easy ski, a study hall session, and a home-cooked meal. We stayed at the High Peaks Cyclery “Base Camp” complete with bunk beds and rustic styling.

On Sunday morning everyone fought hard to the summit through wind, fog, and deep competition!

Masters Training 9/18 other opportunities…

9/18 Roller Ski

We have had few great weekends of roller skiing already, so come out and join us this Sunday where the Masters will be roller skiing at 9AM from Airport Park in Colchester.

Masters Training Schedule

Moving forward instead of weekly blog posts, we will move to a google doc to list and update all the latest training schedule information.   So please make sure to bookmark the  Master Training Schedule web link or Google Doc itself to access the latest Masters information.

Tuesday BTV Masters Roller Ski Group

Craig Pepin extends an open invitation to anyone who finds themselves near Burlington at the end of the workday on Tuesday. The group meets at  5:15 on the Route 127 bikepath in Burlington.  A small group of us plan to do this every Tuesday, except in cases of severe weather, until the snow flies. Between 45 minutes in an hour of rollerskiing. Hope you can join us, if not today then some other time this fall.

How to get there:  Ethan Allen Homestead

Except that we will park at the big half circle lot just off the highway, before you get to the museum itself. If you arrive later, head south on the bike path, as that is the initial direction will go before turning around and coming back.

Pugs n’ Knights

The Junior Fall training group has really grown this year, especially in light of a new collaboration between MNC and the St. Mikes ski team! Many Purple Knights have joined in with the Pugs to ski at the Range on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the bigger group has really made for an awesome atmosphere.

Last Tuesday we had 19 rollerskiers, which was certainly a record number of MNC athletes rolling on a weekday in recent years. We’ve had a number of productive sessions with this large group…skate speeds are way more exciting with a crowded pack, and even just warmup drills and fun relays take on a new, more race-like feel when there’s a chaotic start and elbows flying.

Here is some media of the fall group in action:

You may have noticed Coach Adam’s droning monotone on some of our Youtube clips…apologies for that! I’ve been putting together some more instructional videos to compliment our growing suite of hiphop and classic rock-infused training “edits”. On the MNC homepage you’ll find a new dropdown menu titled “Resources”. Here you’ll find these videos grouped into playlists that are easy to navigate: Technique Drills and Equipment and Waxing

The Technique Drills library includes narrated videos of some of our favorite drills for rollerskis, snow skis, and on-foot.

The Equipment and Waxing library is probably a little more varied…this playlist can include anything from waxing how-to clips all the way to crazy training inventions and tools that Coach Adam has dreamed up.

Both libraries are set to grow as the seasons progress, so be sure to check back often!

Masters race opportunity this weekend

Calling all MNC Masters and friends! Are you interested in a 5k running race this Saturday, September 10th?

Burlington XC Invite

The Burlington High School invite is one of the biggest XC races in the fall. But BEFORE all the crazy action of the HS racing takes place, there is an open citizens race at 9am. The MNC Junior team will be competing, and MNC Masters are welcome and encouraged to sign up as well!

Look for the MNC tent near the start area at North Beach and, if you can, wear an MNC t-shirt to represent the club! Adam will be on-hand at the tent with several shirts of various sizes for sale ($10-15 donation to the club) if you are looking for new training/racing threads.
