BKL Goes to Metro Rocks!

What do you do when you are a BKL skier, the snow disappears and it’s raining outside? You go climbing at Metrorocks! A big gang of MNC BKLers descended upon Metrorocks last Tuesday for a fun afternoon of challenges. We climbed, we walked the slack line, we bouldered, and tried the pull-up bar. We also got to know each other a little better and had a great time doing it! Thanks to all the coaches who helped to belay and supervise.

BKL Practice Week of 12/17-12/22-UPDATED

Tuesday 12/17: Dryland or Classic at Mill River Park

The Range is not going to be open to us for skiing tomorrow, but we are hoping that they will be good to go on Thursday.

We are supposed to get 2-4 inches of snow throughout the day tomorrow, and with frozen ground, we should be able to ski on very little in the fields at Mill River Park. Bring your classic equipment (no-wax if you have it) and your running sneakers just in case. I will bring wax and a bench for those who will need wax. We will end when it gets dark (4:45/5 pm). Remember that there is no inside space to warm up at Mill River Park.

Thursday 12/19: Check back before you leave for changes!

Jack Rabbits, Arctic Foxes, Racers & MS Racers: Classic at the Range

We are going to take advantage of cold temperatures and fresh snow and go classic again. Everyone should meet inside today due to the cold (dress extra warmly). Racers and others with waxable skis will get waxed up inside.

Saturday 12/22: Racers & MS Racers

Skate at Craftsbury Outdoor Center, 11 AM- 12:3o PM.

Coach Rosemary is in Waterville this weekend so Coach Jen will lead the charge!  Meet her at the Touring Center at 11 AM. Racers are responsible for purchasing a trail pass ($5) or a season membership.

BKL Practice Update for Thursday 12/12

The Range is closed. We will do dryland on foot at Mills River Park.  We will go from 3:45- dark (4:45/5pm). There are no lights and no indoor space, so dress warmly in layers, wear sneakers for running, and bring a headlamp if you have one. We’ll do some dryland stuff, play some games and go for a run or hike in the woods and have some fun on foot!  Parents are welcomed to join us, have some fun and get some exercise!

Mills River Park is located on Rte. 15 across from the JOLLY’s gas station between Brown’s Trace Rd and the Deborah Rawson Library (on River Rd).

The Range is working on making snow but we are getting more warm temps and more rain again this weekend so it may be difficult. Stay tuned and get those kids to do a snow dance!

Adam’s Wax Tips: Craftsbury Openers

A wet and manmade snow weekend! Bring your raincoat!

Note: NO FLUOROS are allowed for this weekend. This includes LF and HF waxes. CH/”Non-Fluoro” only!

Glide wax for Sat and Sun: Start with a blue wax like Toko NF/Base Performance Blue or Swix CH5 or CH6 to harden the base against dirt. Scrape and brush, and then apply your favorite yellow non-fluoro. This can either be a traditional (iron/scrape/brush) or liquid method.

Kick wax for Sun: This is going to be a fun one. Plan on a klister/hardwax combination if you are using wax. A great plan is to arrive with a klister binder on your skis (this can be done easily with Swix or Toko spray base klister). FOR MASTERS SKIERS this could be a great race to use skin skis or waxless fischscale racing skis.

BKL Practice 10/12- 10/15

Tuesday 10/12- Range Closed!

Due to warm temps and rain, the Range will be closed on Tuesday, so we will have practice at Metrorocks in Essex and work on our strength while having a good time and getting to know each other better. We have done this at least once for the past two or three years and everyone always has a blast at Metrorocks! Kids who have not been there will need a parent to come in and sign a waiver.  We are getting a nice group rate: $20 each- $14 for climbing, $4 shoes and $2 for harness. We will do our regular time (3:45- 5:15).

Thursday 10/12- Jack Rabbits, Arctic Foxes & all Racers

Skate Ski at the Range, but check the website Thursday before leaving to be sure we haven’t had to change our venue.

Saturday: Craftsbury Opener Classic BKL Race-CANCELLED

I am working on alternative plans. We will try to get a practice in this weekend if we can!
