BKL Jams the Silver Fox Trot!

When the lollipop race starts off chasing a T-Rex dinosaur on skis, you know it’s going to be a fun day! Such was the vibe at this year’s Silver Fox Trot down at Rikert Touring Center in Ripton.  A bit of natural snow boosted skating conditions on Rikert’s man-made loops and even though it was cold, skis were relatively fast and the downhill corners never got icy.

MNC had a good turn-out of racers from lollipopers to 8th graders. Odin Healy (pictured above) skied his first BKL race in the grade 1/2 category and had so much fun, he headed to Craftsbury the next day for the BKL Team Sprints. Mom says “he’s got the racing bug!” His sister Mirabel bundled up in matching hat and buff and skied the lollipop race.

We had four boys in the 5/6 race and they all had a good start. That’s Matias Citarella on the top left, Jonah Gorman in the foreground and Dylan Torrizo on the upper right.

Matias had an especially good race today. You can just see the determination on his face and how well he is skiing.  Jonah, in the background, has his eye on Matias. Jonah put the pedal to the metal on the last hill couple of hills and finished right behind Matias. I think these two are going to battle it out all season long!

Dylan Torrizo is skiing very well this year. I have a video of Dylan from this same race last year and I can’t wait to show it to him.  His technique has improved so much!

Ripley Boyden joined the racers and started racing this year. This was a hilly course for a first-timer. Ripely did a great job and I love the way he hop-skated up the first uphill!

Once kids get to the 7/8 ages, the competition becomes fierce as kids hit their growth spurts and get bigger, start training harder and even start attending private ski schools. MNC Devo skiers Niko Cuneo and Anders Linseisen (pictured above) held their own with skiers from Green Mountain Valley School, Putney, and Ford Sayer. Niko finished 4th and Anders 8th. Nice job!

The BKL field of 7/8 girls is also extremely competitive and MNC’s Virginia Cobb skied right up in the mix landing a fourth place today.

Great job to all these MNC Skiers!

Big racing weekend!

Three big races, with MNC at all three!

Saturday was the Silver Fox Trot, and while this race was not counted for Club Clup/Zak Cup points that didn’t stop a lot of MNC folks from taking part. We had competitors in the BKL races in the morning, followed by some Juniors and a LOT of Masters racing in the main event. Here’s some video footage from the BKL and open races:

Sunday was the Race for Snow down in Boston. Believe it or not, they got some snow! Despite the southern locale, Dave Charlie and Karen all raced for MNC and scored some points in the coveted Club Cup.

On Sunday, we had one of the biggest group efforts I’ve ever seen at the Geschmossel. It was a gorgeous day, with the wind holding off and Mt Washington towering over the landscape in all its splendor. We had a big crew ride down in the van, and met up with even more Masters on site. Easy waxing (green!) and a gentle course made for a fun time.

MNC van and waxing compound. Looking fresh!

The start line, lots of MNC kits in there…
