MNC Wax Clinic

MNC Wax Clinic with Dave Boucher 12/4/2012

Thanks to Dave Boucher (TOKO) for helping with a hands-on wax clinic for BK skiers and parents as well as Masters skiers on Tuesday.  Along with help from the MNC coaches many kids and Masters skiers walked out with skis prepared for snow and a much better understanding of both glide and kick waxing.  In addition to waxing skis everyone participated in some fun and fitness activities to get ready for ski season.

The BKL Racing Team will have an on snow practice on Saturday morning 12/8 from 10 -11:30 at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.  We will be on skate skis.  Skiers must purchase a trail pass if they do not already have a seasons pass.  See you there!

Juniors: Training this week 12/3 – 12/9

This week is going to be a rodeo with crazy weather combined with the fact that they started blowing snow at the Range last week. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that we can rollerski safely and effectively. With that said, please be prepared for the possibility of having to do our workouts as running/bounding on Tuesday/Thursday.

  • Tuesday, 4:00 – 5:45 at the Range. Skate rollerski with high-intensity.
  • Thursday, 4:00 – 5:45 at the Range. Classic rollerski with high-intensity.
  • Sunday: location TBA. Race (Lake Placid – 5km/10km free) or time-trial (Craftsbury).

Craftsbury Ski on Saturday

Coach Rick and possibly others will be at Craftsbury Saturday for an informal ski session with club members. Don’t forget to purchase a trail pass or better yet a season pass (great deal on family passes at Craftsbury).

Masters – Classic 9 AM – 10 AM

BK – Classic 10:30AM – 12:00

Masters – Skate 1:30 – whenever we want to stop.

First snow report of the year

Craftsbury: As of Friday 11/30 at 9am: Received ~ 5″ of snow in the past 48 hours — sounds good for opening the meadow and other trails. They already have a 1.25km loop with 12″ of man-made snow in the fields.
The Range: As of Thursday 11/29/12 @ 6pm it was still snowing hard at the Range. There was approximately 3-4″ of snow on the ground. The National Guard had also begun running the snow-guns by mid-afternoon!

Smugg’s Notch Road: The picture below was taken by Jake Hollenbach on Tuesday 11/27. He skied the Stowe-side of Smuggler’s notch road both Tuesday & Wednesday and had positive reports for both skate and classic. Likely another 5-8″ as of Friday morning.

Masters ski training is underway! Have you Signed up yet?

Ok, there isn’t enough snow to ski at the range yet BUT we have started dryland ski training on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  This is a great opportunity to work with coaches on ski imitation, strength and of course BALANCE.  In order to improve our skiing we need to develop a sense of balance and proper body position that allows us to glide comfortably on our skis.  Only then can we apply the power which will make us a faster.

If you haven’t signed up yet please go to the home page of this website and click on “Join MNC.”  If you have signed up but are not getting the emails or have questions about the MNC ski programs please contact Rick.

NOTE: The Notch has good snow cover and several MNC members report good skiing there.  Craftsbury has excellent skiing on a man-made loop (mixed with natural snow) and should be expanding the loop for the weekend.
