BKL Practices Week of 3/12

2 & 3 Day Programs

•We have changed out end of season party to Tuesday the 20th! With all this new snow, we should be good to ski through next week at the Range.

Tuesday:  CLASSIC! Distance classic ski!  It’s supposed to snow today with a high near 31. With all the new snow, we should be able to ski some trails we haven’t skied in a while so we will do our best to ski them all!  As always, please check the website before you go, just in case they close the road to the Range.

Thursday: SKATE: Game Day! We’ll play stones!

3-Day Skiers & Open to all BKL Kids & Families:

Saturday: Ski from Highland Lodge to Craftsbury: a 25km scenic ski.

Details:
Shuttle leaves Craftsbury at 9:30 am. We all need to arrive by 9 AM (an early morning, I know!) to get waxed, ready and to buy our shuttle tickets.
Shuttle tickets: $5 at the touring center

Weather:  Partly sunny, with a high near 23. Northwest wind around 10 mph. (from www.weather.gov) Sounds perfect!

Technique:  Looks like a great day for classic and it’s a great trail for classic, but it’s also groomed for skate.

What to bring:  Carry a small backpack or fanny pack with water, snacks, extra wax and enough room to carry a layer if you shed your clothes.

Distance: It’s about 25km. If you have a younger child who may not go all the way, you could leave a car in the village of Craftsbury  (it would be about 10 km shorter).

Let me know who is in for this! Email: sheacobb19@gmail.com  I would like to let Craftsbury know how many skiers we will have for the shuttle  so they can plan for the right number of vans. Thanks!

-Rosemary

Friday Foxes:

New snow at the Range. Skiing should be great! This will be our last ski day.

Rental Return Times:  Tuesday (March 20) or Thursday (March 22) at the Range between 5:15 and 6 pm with Rosemary. If those times don’t work, please contact Rosemary at sheacobb19@gmail.com to arrange another time.

BKL Practice Week of 2/05/18

2 & 3 Day Programs

Tuesday:  SKATE.

Penguins- Strap on you favorite stuffed animal and fart lek for the animals! (Bring your favorite stuffy!)

Biathletes will work with Coach Yves and Coach Peter to get ready for this weekend’s Nor Am Biathlon.

Everyone Else– We’ll work on race tactics and play some games.

Thursday: It’s the BKL Classic Mini-Marathon!

How far can you ski in 1 hour? Snow should be good and skiing should be great!  This is always a fun practice for the kids!

  1. Come early to get your skis waxed. We will not have time to take off klister on this day, so if you need help cleaning your classic skis, bring them on Tuesday and we can help you with them after practice (it’s going to be hardwax on Thursday).
  2. Parents:  Hydration & Snacks are important for the mini-marthaon. Bring a full water bottle for each of your kids and label with their name and also bring a snack to share. You can leave both on the table outside. We need a couple of parents to help monitor and organize the snacks and also to help the kids mark down their laps. If you can help, e-mail Rosemary at sheacobb19@gmail.com

BKL Training Week of 12/11

Snow Leopards, Jackrabbits  (2-3 Day) & Penguins

There is snow in the forecast! Check out the National Weather Service Forecast for Jericho. We are hoping to get on snow this week!

Tuesday: It’s supposed to snow much of the day. Travel could be unsafe. We will have coaches at the Range unless we post otherwise, so check the website before you leave to be sure nothing has changed! Regardless, it is always up to you to decide whether or not travel from your area to the Range is safe enough for you to make the trip.

We will plan to ski, SKATE technique (Penguins: classic). Bring Skate equipment, but also bring running shoes, just in case! If you have old skis or “rock” skis, you might want to bring those.

Thursday: Definite plan is to ski, SKATE technique! It will be cold, so bundle your kids. We need some parents to stay inside and help & monitor kids that coaches send in to warm up.  Please e-mail me at sheacobb19@gmail.com if you can help out!

Saturday:  Classic technique, long easy distance ski at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. They got over a foot of snow! Should be great! Meet at 9:30 to get waxed and ready, on snow by 10:00.

Range has snow! Friday Foxes will ski on Friday, Dec. 15th!!

Hunger Mt. Hike

Ten adventurous BKL kids plus five parents took advantage of a day off from school to hike Mt. Hunger on Friday. What a gorgeous day it was! The group got quite strung out on the uphill climb due to a variety of hiking paces but everyone made it to the top where the views were awesome in all directions. It was so clear that we could see the White Mountains to the east and the Adirondacks to the west.  A fierce wind was blowing down the ridgeline so we had to find a sheltered spot to eat our lunch. Carly’s mom, Carolyn, treated us all to gingerbread and whipped cream that she packed up the mountain in honor of her birthday. Happy Birthday Carolyn and great work hiking to all the kids and parents!

Next week’s hike is on Sunday, Oct. 29. We’ll be hiking Mt. Mansfield!
