BKL Practices Week of 12/15/2020

I hope some of the kids got out on snow this past week before the melt-down! This week will be back to seasonable cold temps but there is no snow in the forecast until the weekend. I have put together a number of Dryland and On-Snow options for all groups. In our area, Sleepy Hollow looks the most promising for on-snow time this week. They have a 300 meter loop and will be able to make and spread more snow this week. If you hear about snow in the mountains, be sure to check the MNC website for conditions at Bolton, which will probably be skiable again with just a few inches of snow. Otherwise, I’ve got some dryland activities for you: Playground Agility and a Nature Hunt for Jack Rabbits and Penguins and Strength BINGO, a Scavenger Hunt and  a V-1 focus workout for Arctic Foxes and Racers (plus on-snow options in case you can get on snow).  As always, please feel free to email me with questions and send me photos I can post! Enjoy!

The Search for Penny the Penguin!

While Arctic Foxes and Racers searched for a Treasure Box in Richmond this past week, Penguins and Jack Rabbits were encouraged to go for a hunt on the Honey Hollow Trail to find Penny the Penguin. A couple of you found her too! Penny left her spot on the HH Trail today for a well-earned rest but she will be back. Who knows where she’ll turn up next?

Bella found Penny!

Oliver and Finn found Penny too!

BKL Program Starts Dec. 3!

Get the kids’ skis dusted off and make sure those boots and poles fit because the snow is here early and BKL practice begins at the Range on Tuesday Dec. 3!  All groups should meet inside the Walker Building this first day. Kids will meet their coaches, we’ll do a few intro words and games and get out to ski if there is snow, or get out for some dryland & games in our sneakers if there is no snow. Check the website (BKL Weekly Training Schedule ) to confirm the technique (classic or skate) and practice plans.

BKL Practices Week of 3/12

2 & 3 Day Programs

•We have changed out end of season party to Tuesday the 20th! With all this new snow, we should be good to ski through next week at the Range.

Tuesday:  CLASSIC! Distance classic ski!  It’s supposed to snow today with a high near 31. With all the new snow, we should be able to ski some trails we haven’t skied in a while so we will do our best to ski them all!  As always, please check the website before you go, just in case they close the road to the Range.

Thursday: SKATE: Game Day! We’ll play stones!

3-Day Skiers & Open to all BKL Kids & Families:

Saturday: Ski from Highland Lodge to Craftsbury: a 25km scenic ski.

Details:
Shuttle leaves Craftsbury at 9:30 am. We all need to arrive by 9 AM (an early morning, I know!) to get waxed, ready and to buy our shuttle tickets.
Shuttle tickets: $5 at the touring center

Weather:  Partly sunny, with a high near 23. Northwest wind around 10 mph. (from www.weather.gov) Sounds perfect!

Technique:  Looks like a great day for classic and it’s a great trail for classic, but it’s also groomed for skate.

What to bring:  Carry a small backpack or fanny pack with water, snacks, extra wax and enough room to carry a layer if you shed your clothes.

Distance: It’s about 25km. If you have a younger child who may not go all the way, you could leave a car in the village of Craftsbury  (it would be about 10 km shorter).

Let me know who is in for this! Email: sheacobb19@gmail.com  I would like to let Craftsbury know how many skiers we will have for the shuttle  so they can plan for the right number of vans. Thanks!

-Rosemary

Friday Foxes:

New snow at the Range. Skiing should be great! This will be our last ski day.

Rental Return Times:  Tuesday (March 20) or Thursday (March 22) at the Range between 5:15 and 6 pm with Rosemary. If those times don’t work, please contact Rosemary at sheacobb19@gmail.com to arrange another time.
