Spring Fling Wax Recommendations

TOKO is recommending  LF Moly as a first layer followed by HF Red.

Options provided by Coach Adam Terko:

1) Cold glide wax, preferably graphite

2) A mid range HF like TOKO  Red, SWIX HF 7 or 8, SkiGo Violet

3) A mid-range or warm-range topcoat. Liquids could run well.

4) A medium grind/structure will be fine – though everything should be fast!

Note from Coach Rick:

I will bring a bench, generator, iron and roto cork if anyone needs help putting on a top coat (sorry you have to supply that part!)

NO PRACTICE for BK/Masters on Thursday 3/26

Hi all – practice on Thursday (tomorrow) is canceled for BK racing, Jackrabbits, Penguins, and masters. The forecast calls for lots of rain, which means soggy skiing and possibly questionable grooming. Instead, rest up and get ready for a good weekend! We look forward to seeing everyone in Craftsbury for our end-of-season party on Sunday. Remember, skiing starts at 10:30am and food/festivities will roll out at 12:30. See you there!

BK and Masters 3/24-3/29

This will be our last week of “official” ski practices but there is a chance that we may be able to get a few days at the range in April.  Check the blog for updates.

Pick your technique again this week.  We will have the MNC wax box with klister if you need some help getting skis prepped.

Tuesday 3/24

BK will do Mini-Marathon – we will have a course set up and kids ski as many laps as they can between 3:45 and 5:00 using what ever technique you choose.  Each lap as you pass through the stadium find your name on the list and put a check mark on the sheet to help us count laps.  Parents: We will place a table or two next to the trail to put snacks and water out for the kids.  So if you can bring something to contribute it would be greatly appreciated.

Masters – we will drop down 1-2 coaches this week and will help those that want to do a little more technique work but also finish up with a fun relay.

Thursday 3/26

BK will finish up the season with a group ski with all ages followed by games, jumps etc.

Masters will finish up the season with a social ski and for those planning on racing at the Spring Fling we will ski easy with a few short pick-ups and discuss ski prep for wet conditions predicted for the race.

SATURDAY – Spring Fling 15/30 km skate race at Craftsbury http://www.craftsbury.com/general/about-the-center/news/detail/1448/ Coach Eden will lead younger BK skiers that want to do the 15 km.  Be sure to email her if you want plan on going and want some support. eden_shullenberg@hotmail.com.  We will have some other coaches there to compete and we are happy to help the kids and masters.  Look for the MNC tent.

SUNDAY – MNC End of the Season Ski Party at Craftsbury.  The center is also hosting  sprint biathlon competition that day for skiers 12 and older. http://www.craftsbury.com/general/about-the-center/news/detail/1466/

Skiing March 17 and 19

The fun isn’t over yet! Winter is still here and we will ski this week. Congrats to all the kids that skied at the Grand Prix  http://barttiming.com/XCski/fmnc2015.htm and at Cochran’s Nordic Cross.

Masters

Choice of Technique again this week.

  • The forecast is all over the place this week but I will bring some spray-on klister if anyone would like to classic ski.
  • On Thursday the masters workout will be the Nordic Sprints (see flyer below) but you are welcome to just ski.
  • On Sunday Craftsbury is hosting a 30 km Spring Fling https://www.nensa.net/calendar/index.php?id=1715.  This one will be fun.

BK

We have received an email from Coach Marge that the NYSEF Nordic Kids Festival WILL NOT take place this year.  Too bad.  It’s always a fun event. However….

Tuesday – Ski with the UVM Nordic Team.  Bring skate skis and join in on the fun skiing with some of the best NCAA skiers and coaches.

Thursday – Bring skate skis and stay late if you can try the Nordic Sprints – that will be hosted by the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club.

Nordic Sprints

Masters ski at Craftsbury – Sunday

Dennis Ryan will be leading a group from Highland Lodge to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center on Sunday. They will be skate skiing at a fairly quick pace.  Meet at 8:45 to secure a pot on the 9:30 shuttle.  They plan on doing some additional skiing on part of the Grand Tour and plan on being back at the center for lunch.  If you would like to join them or have questions contact Dennis at dennisryan@deept.com
