Rosemary’s BKL Wax Recommendations

If you are wondering what wax you should have on hand for your BKLer, here are my suggestions. These are all Toko Products. See Toko Team Order for info on ordering. Orders due Dec. 7 .

For Waxable Classic Skis:

Base Cleaning: (to take off klister): Wax Remover (250ml is plenty)

Grip (or Kick) Waxes: (in order of priority)

Toko Red: a great mid-range wax. Similar to SWIX extra blue, it has a wide temp range.

Toko Yellow: One of my “go-to” waxes when temps near 32F or get above.

Toko Blue: For cold dry conditions.

Base Green: An excellent base binder ironed in when it’s abrasive out there.

 Base Preparation:

Natural Wax Cork (for rubbing in the kick wax)

For Skate Skis:

NF or LF Hot Waxes (for skate skis & tips & tails of classic skis): 40 gr. will probably last you a season. NF is no fluro and LF is low fluro. Both these are fine for BKL. LF are faster waxes, especially in humid conditions and if your child is going to race a lot, you may want to get the LF.Start with Red. If you can get more, get Blue, then Yellow.

*You may use MNC’s wax iron, benches and scrapers at the Range to wax during or after practices. Check in with Adam or Rosemary.

BKL Practice- First Week! 11/26-12/02

Reminders:

For directions to the Range, click HERE

They are now checking ID at the Range entrance. Bring your Driver’s License.

Be sure to drive the posted speed limit in the Range (25mph). They check!

The skier’s parking lot is the large lot on the left, just as you crest the steep hill and before you get to the Groomer’s Garage. Use the tunnel to walk the trail to the Walker Building or just ski downhill on the left on the access trail. DO NOT PARK ALONG THE ROAD. Thanks.

The water at the Range is not potable. Bring filled waterbottles- kids get thirsty!

We start at 3:45. Try to get there beforehand if your kids need to change or put on their boots so they are ready to go at 3:45.

Tuesday, 11/27: Skate Technique (Penguins classic)

The weather looks like snow, rain & snow. Please check the website before you come today just in case they close the Range and we have to make a last minute change. I will post by 2 pm if we need to make a change.

We will start inside the Walker Building today.  In addition to your ski equipment, please bring your running sneakers- if we loose too much snow, we will be on foot.  Also bring a rain coat that you can ski and run in. Some dry clothes might be good too. After some introductions, we will be doing some name games, team building games and a little technique work on and off our skis!

Thursday, 11/29: Skate Technique

Check the website before you come today too. Meet the coaches on skis outside. Parents should meet Coach Rosemary inside the Walker Building at 5 PM for the Parent Meeting.

Saturday, 12/01: All Racers

10 AM- 11:30ish:  Classic at Craftsbury Outdoor Center! Meet Coach Rosemary at 10 AM in the wax room with your skis. After we are waxed we’ll do a little technique followed by a long easy distance ski. If your child needs a ride, please e-mail me. We can arrange some carpools. sheacobb19@gmail.com

Tell us your story…

Our MNC Board is looking for your help to develop and expand our sponsorship base.   Toward that end, our goal is to create a 2-3 minute video that captures what is special about our club.

To that end,  we are asking our members to share their experiences and stories.  What does MNC and Nordic skiing mean to you?

So please give us your thoughts, your photos, your videos at the email below. Also, if you have video skills and want to help create this clip, please let us know.

Skirack MNC Grinding Order

Calling all skiers looking for a stonegrind! If you are looking to refresh your ski bases, our friends at Skirack have offered the club a team price for a batch order of $55 per pair. Here’s how to get involved:

  1. Clean and scrape the skis you would like ground. Put skis together with tape or rubber bands, not ski ties!
  2. Clearly mark your name, and desired grind, on masking or painters tape on the skis
  3. Drop off your skis downstairs at Skirack any time before 10:00AM on Wednesday, Nov 14 and let the staff know you are part of the Mansfield Nordic Batch for Nov14
  4. Skirack will ideally have the skis turned around by Monday, Nov 19th. Skiers pay for service at time of pickup.
  5. This is the deadline for grinding batch 1, but with 10 or more pairs these batches can continue being assembled!

Find more information on Skirack’s nordic grinds HERE. After a season of testing and racing on Skirack grinds (both personal skis and the MNC wax test skis), Adam recommends the 6.7 for skiers with 1 pair of skate or classic race skis. This is a very adaptable grind for mid-range conditions that can be modified for warmer temps with hand structure!

Informational packets and grind menus can also be found at the MNC Annual Meeting.
