GRAND PRIX Wrap Up and Pics

GRAND PRIX
The Frost Mountain Grand Prix began with warm spring like weather on Saturday and finished with sunny skies but cold mid winter conditions on Sunday.  MNC skiers not only had a great time but also posted some excellent results.  Day one of the Grand Prix saw lots of MNC skiers at or near the top of the results page http://www.frostmountainnordic.org/gp14results.html.

DAY ONE: MNC skiers with first place finishes included Charles Martell, Quincy Massey-Bierman and Olivia Cuneo.  The closest race was the Boys 13 yr old with Kai Richter having his best race of the year finishing 2nd to SMS skier Adam Witkowski. Only about 10 seconds separated 2nd thru 4th.  Day two started with a classic prologue and finished with a skate pursuit race. In the girls 2003 Class MNC had a 1-2 finish as Quincy Massey-Bierman once again topped the field in both races and Camile took second.  Olivia Cuneo took first in 2001 class for both the prologue and skate races rounding out a stellar final year as a BK skier.

DAY TWO: For the boys (2002) we saw Charles Martel take first in the prologue only to get edged out by a few seconds in a great race by Will Koch in the afternoon skate pursuit.  Tim Cobb moved up from 5th in the prologue to take 3rd in the 2001 pursuit and Justin Schaaf in his first year of ski racing finished the morning in 8th and 9th in the pursuit. The boys 2000 class had the deepest field of very good skiers. In the morning classic prologue Greg Burt was 3rd, Kai Richter 7th and Conor Munns 8th.  The afternoon skate pursuit saw Greg fall one position to 4th, Kai held his place for 7th and Conor was in 11th.

Wednesday (today) training CANCELLED. Thursday TBA

Hi all,

due to the rapidly deteriorating travel conditions I am cancelling training today at Sleepy Hollow.

Please stay tuned to the blog, the MNC Facebook page, or TXT message for updates tomorrow regarding Thursday afternoon training at the Range. If conditions get really bad overnight I may have to cancel Thursday as well.

Thanks and stay safe.

J2 Championship Photos

Thanks to Gary Solow for another awesome batch of photos from the New England J2 Championships last weekend at Rikert (Breadloaf) Ski Center. Many of our local MNC athletes played a role in Team Vermont winning the event over the Midwest, Mass, New York, Maine and New Hampshire!!

The full Picasa album has over 800 photos.

Congrats Vermont and MNC!

MNC Boys Ranked 3rd in the Country!

Based on the results of our boys racing at Junior Nationals last week, the MNC boys finished the season as the 3rd place club in the country! This was due to the success each of the boys had in their individual races at Trapp’s. The scoring system [world cup points] favors strength of results over having a large number of participants. Since our athletes all had top-6 performances, including two podiums from Forrest, they ranked really high in the nation!

Congratulations to Forrest, Henry and Ben, as well as all the other MNC athletes, coaches and parents that helped support them over the past several years. This kind of result is something that takes a lot of hard work over the course of many months and years.
