Out-of-Region Junior National Qualifier Race: 1/11/14
Saturday 1/11 @ Lake Placid: 7.5km classic individual start.
Each year NYSEF (Lake Placid, NY) hosts a race that is considered an “out-of-region” Junior National qualifier event for New England skiers. It is typically a much smaller field than an Eastern Cup and sometimes (but not always) it helps athletes score good points. This year the race is a 7.5km individual start for ALL participants (J2’s, J1/OJ, men and women alike).
This is a great event for athletes to ski on the incredible trails that hosted the 1980 Olympics. It is also a great opportunity for athletes that are thinking about Junior Nationals and who may be on the “bubble” for qualification. When conditions are good at Mt Van Hovenberg, it is one of my favorite places in the world to ski and it is absolutely worth the drive!

If you are thinking about attending, or if you have questions as to whether it is a good idea, please let me know and we can discuss this option.
Bogburn Updates
Anyone thinking about attending the Bogburn this Saturday should stay tuned to their official facebook page for updates regarding conditions. It sounds like we need to do a snow dance.

Junior Photos
The race season kicked off last Saturday with many of our MNC Juniors participating in the opening Eastern Cup sprint race at Craftsbury. Highlights included a lot of 1st-timers getting their first taste of high-level racing. Henry Harmeyer finished 2nd in the U20 men’s heats and Forrest Hamilton won the U16 men’s heats in a photo finish ahead of a french-Canadian athlete.
The High School race season is also under way and MNC athletes are kicking butt all over the place! I’ve heard about lots of top-10 performances across the board and one standout was Ben Carnahan (freshman at CVU) winning his first-ever JV race by nearly a minute thereby earning a spot on the Varisty squad for future races!
Training continues this week with an expanded group of athletes as we have a few of our graduates back in town (Emma Hamilton – Bowdoin; Liam John and Sam Longbenbach from St. Olaf). We are trying to log some km’s while everyone is on break from school. We are also sending luck to the Harmeyer Brothers who are traveling to Utah for Senior National Championships next week. Nathanael Kuzio also wraps up his Biathlon Junior World Championship trials races today up in Presque Isle, ME.
