2026 NENSA BKL Festival Location Announcement

This just in from NENSA: The New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) is excited to announce that the 2026 New England Bill Koch League (BKL) Festival will be hosted by JacksonXC BKL and JacksonXC in Jackson, New Hampshire from February 28 to March 1, 2026.

The BKL Festival is the marquee event of the Bill Koch Youth Ski League, whose mission is to introduce young people to the lifelong sport of cross-country skiing—and the many associated health, fitness, and social benefits—in a fun, inclusive, and safe environment.

The BKL Fest is open to all MNC BKL skiers and families. It’s always an amazing weekend of skiing that includes some races, ski adventures, games and activities on skis. Here are a few tips from Coach Liz if you are thinking about going to the Fest this year.

Lodging There are lots of lodging options in the Jackson, NH area including hotels, condos and houses. Some MNC BKL families are staying at the Eagle Mtn House. MNC families typically stay wherever works best for them and we don’t have a specific team hotel. Here is a great list of lodging options from the NENSA website. And even if we don’t all stay in the same place we spend all day together at the event and we’ll plan to have a team dinner one of the nights we are there.

Registration will begin in December. If your family is considering going we encourage you to register for a NENSA Membership soon. NENSA memberships are required to register for the BKL Fest.  Once you your child has a NENSA Memberhsip you will begin to receive information about the Fest. We will also post registration reminders on the MNC website and in MNC Club communication.

Masters Rollerskiing @ The Range

Calling all rollerskiing masters!

The rollerski track at the range is open for business again! Sick of rolling on variable pavement alongside automobiles and off-leash dogs? Swing by the range in Jericho between 5 and 7PM on Thursdays, beginning this week, July 10th.

You’re free to choose your own adventure, but for skiers looking to start preparing for race season, Owen Lenz will be running weekly interval sessions starting at 5:45. It’ll be a (type 2) fun, supportive group where we can push each other and get stronger together!

A few notes:

  • Rollerskiing at the range is a little more intimidating than on-snow skiing there. Some of the downhills are no joke, so this is definitely best for intermediate to advanced rollerskiers and it’s recommended to spend some time familiarizing yourself with the terrain at a slow pace before you start sending downhills during hard intervals.
  • If the weather looks bad (rain, extreme heat, etc.) check the rollerskiing channel on the MNC masters Slack for cancellation notices or feel free to email Owen (owen.lenz@gmail.com) with questions.
  • When signing in at the gate, you’ll need to show ID and tell them you’re going up to the rollerski track!

In order to ski at the range, you should be a registered MNC member ($30) and have paid the 1-time $15 fee for access to the range.

The Collective

The word “collective” is used a fair bit in the mountain biking world. One of the more renowned film studios in the sport was The Collective, and that studio was responsible for one of the most definitive MTB movies of all time: Seasons.

In brand terms, you may have heard of Canyon. They are fond of removing vowels for some reason, and their team is known as the Canyon Collective or, in their parlance, “CLLCTV.”

This summer, we’ve had several groups all training as Mansfield Nordic…from the Juniors to the Pro Team to the MNCU collegiate group, there are a number of different skiers all putting in work. While the goals and experience may vary, we’ve been able to come together on many occasions to train together. This is no small feat…it can be incredibly tricky to mesh plans, locations, schedules, and coaches all on one workout. Yet it seems almost natural. Unforced.

Speed workout at the Range: Pro Team, College Team, Junior Team. One Team.

To me this is very telling of what MNC is and how our club operates. When pro skiers train alongside high school freshmen, it is not some elaborate structured session with intros and autographs. Everyone is just showing up to be a part of the same experience. It’s a collective. There are no egos and there is no intimidation: and that allows for everyone to get the most they possibly can from these experiences.

A 3 hour run with 20+ friends

Is everything going to function this smoothly at all times? That’s foolish to expect. But we’ve already proven that a collaborative attitude can take us a long way!
