Saturday 2/15 – BK Race at Morrisville – We encourage all MNC kids to come to this one. Info at https://www.nensa.net/calendar/index.html?id=1579 Registration 9-10:30. Races start at 11:00. Skate technique.
EQUIPMENT CHECK – Classic Poles should be up to the top of the shoulder and skate poles should be up to the mouth when you are in your boots and on skis. For kids it is not a bad idea to buy slightly larger poles at the beginning of the season to account for those growth spurts.

Meet Nathanael Kuzio: 2014 Youth Men Nor/Am Champ!
Nathanael Kuzio (Moretown, VT) is a jack-of-all-trades: runner, skier and biathlete. He represents Harwood High School running for Coach Kerrigan, MNC, as well as the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club working with Eric Tremble, Algis Shalna and John Madigon. The EABC recently hosted North American Biathlon Championships at the Range and Nathanael took home top-honors in his category on the final day of racing.

It was the mass-start race and coming into the final stage of shooting Nathanael was in 4th place overall. He “cleaned” his final stage of shooting — a standing shooting stage which is typically more difficult than prone — and leapfrogged two Canadians who went to the penalty lap. With just about 0.5km to go, he skied past the one remaining Canadian to win by 8 seconds! With 16/20 shooting on the day it was both excellent skiing and shooting. The top WOrld Cup skiers typically average around 85% shooting accuracy, so that is really good!

Junior Photos and Update
Thanks again to Gary Solow for help taking photos at the Trapp’s Eastern Cup last weekend. There has been a lot of sickness going around so our group was a bit smaller this weekend. It is February now and everyone is getting laser-focus on the most important races of their winter in the next 5-6 weeks. THings kick-off tomorrow with the EHSC/J2 qualifier races. Then we have the final Eastern Cup weekend of the year over in NH next weekend. After that are State Championships, Juniors Nationals, Eastern High School Championships and J2 Championships! It is going to be an exciting time for all the MNC athletes participating and excelling at a variety of levels! And staying healthy by missing a race here or there is a necessary part of that success.
