Training Groups

MNC Masters training groups are based on skier input collected at registration.  Groups are arranged with coaches and colored flags to help facilitate an easy start to training sessions.

Training Structure and Plans

By Monday each week our coaches we will publish training plans including the technique of the day along with more detailed workout descriptions.  You can find the current week’s training plans on our Masters Training Doc.

Detailed training plans are broken down into four levels based on skier goals, fitness and experience.

Black / Blue workouts are designed for our more performance oriented and/or experienced athletes. Black being the most challenging option in terms of intensity and duration.

White / Green workouts are designed for athletes looking to focus more on building ski specific fitness, skills and experience. The White plan will be the more challenging of these two options.

Equipment & Waxing

What equipment do I need?

Masters skiers should have both wax-able skate and classic gear.  Selecting the proper gear is dependent on skier size, ability and budget.  There are many options for purchasing equipment, including local ski swaps and stores such as Ski Rack where MNC meters receive a club discount.  Typically knowledgeable sales people are on hand at these locations to guide you through the selection process.

What do I need to know about waxing?

Waxing an important element of the sport and can range from basic glide and kick wax options to very sophisticated options for racers.   MNC coaches hold ski wax clinics early in the season to help teach new members the basics of ski wax and equipment.  For those new to skiing our website contains a Very Basic Guide to get you started.   For more experienced athletes, we have also assembled a Glide Wax Guide to recent wax product line changes and event regulations.

Finally, don’t forget that MNC Members also receive significant club discounts on Toko and Start wax products.

What are the new glide wax regulations?

NENSA has moved to an entirely fluoro-free waxing and racing structure. Unless a race with a specific FIS designation is occurring prior to January 17, 2022 is occurring, please DO NOT use fluorocarbon waxes of any kind. This also applies to kick waxes such as Swix VR.

Do I have to Race?

Masters racing can be a fun experience, and while not required it is something our coaches encourage skiers of all levels to try. Recently there has been a push by NENSA to encourage more Masters racing by creating more new racer friendly events.  MNC Coaches generally work race preparation into the weekly training sessions to help skiers build fitness and confidence.
