Masters Coaches

Head Coach Liam John:

Liam skied for MNC and Essex High School before moving on to compete at St. Olaf College in Minnesota.

A US Ski and Snowboard L100 certified coach, Liam has coached the MNC Masters programs since fall 2016.

In addition to skiing, Liam is a skilled photographer, bike rider, and cellist.  During all seasons, Liam is also involved in coaching with the MNC Junior team.

Adam Terko:

Adam has been coaching with the Masters program since becoming MNC Head Coach and Executive Director in 2015. Throughout the year Adam can be seen at Masters sessions and events.

A US Ski and Snowboard L200 certified coach, Adam is the primary coach of the MNC Junior Team. To read about Adam’s experiences in the sport, view his bio page at the Junior Coaches doc.

Although he is mostly coaching at winter events, Adam’s favorite local races to compete in include the Bogburn and the Craftsbury Spring Fling.

Christa Alexander:

We all know Christa as the local Jericho Settler’s Farm owner, but she is also a long-time MNC masters coach and former Williams College skier.

Christa has a knack for helping people develop a feel for the body position and balance needed to improve technique, and she makes it fun!

During the winter, Christa leads Masters skiers in the afternoon sessions from 3:45-5:15PM.

Two children and the year-round farm business keep Christa and husband Mark hopping 24/7!

 Rick Costanza:

A familiar name to MNC members, Rick was a long time coach with NYSEF & staffer at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Trails in Lake Placid before joining Mansfield Nordic in 2011.

Rick has stepped back from daily club activities and leadership roles with BKL and Masters skiers, but is a great resource in the summer, fall, and winter for Masters coaching and events.

Guest coach Leigh Mallory

Leigh is an institution in nordic skiing in Vermont… he coached for 30 years at Colchester High School, where they won 5 state championships and was head coach of the Vermont teams at the Eastern High School and J2 championships.

While he coached a future Olympian, he more frequently coached kids new to skiing so he knows how to adapt his coaching to all levels.

Leigh is an avid master racer and backcountry skier and volunteers for Vermont Adaptive Ski Program.  He & Joanie have two children, both ski coaches.
