Our hot box is a high-quality piece of equipment crafted by Don Harmeyer and built based on Zach Caldwell’s exacting specifications! \nThis event will feature lunch and snacks. \nCoach Adam will give a short talk on how the hotbox works and what the results are for your skis\, as well as a quick wax clinic. If you didn’t get an Evite invitation\, please send your updated email to sue.bentlage@comcast.net \nTo Sign Up for the Potluck click here.  \nWhat is a Hash Run?\nA hash run is designed to engage runners of all ages and levels to follow a marked course with many options but only one correct route to finish.  A very fun event for all abilities  Or more specifically… \nAt a hash\, one or more members (“hares”) lay a trail\, which is then followed by the remainder of the group (the “pack” or “hounds”). Sawdust\, flour\, chalk\, and toilet paper are used to mark the trail. The trail periodically ends at a “check” and the pack must find where it begins again; often the trail includes false trails\, short cuts\, dead ends\, back checks\, and splits. These features are designed to keep the pack together despite differences in fitness level or running speed\, as front-runners are forced to slow down to find the “true” trail\, allowing stragglers to catch up. \nPavel Cenkl\nPavel\, a faculty member in Environmental Humanities at Sterling College\, went the extra mile for climate resilience—171 extra miles!\nCenkl will take us on his 275 km (170.8 mile)\, 3-day solo run across Iceland\, from the Atlantic to the Arctic\, in June 2015 to highlight the role that athletes and adventurers play in building climate resistance. His multi-media presentation will be on interest to any outdoor enthusiast. The run follows an ancient Viking path along both trails and roads among rivers\, waterfalls\, glaciers\, thermal springs\, and through a high desert. Cenkl chose Iceland for this project because “the Arctic is among the places on earth where climate change is most apparent and most pronounced. \n \n  \n

The US Ski Team will be in attendance\, as well as the top-ranked national skiers\, numerous junior clubs and collegiate racers! \nThis event takes place up a 5-mile stretch of freshly-paved road leading to the top of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks…get ready for a lot of V1! This is an incredibly fun (and difficult) event that challenges all participants but\, if the weather is good\, offers a superb reward at the summit. Age group awards and snacks for all finishers are on-hand\, as well as the chance to mingle with and get autographs from the US Ski Team. \nIf you’re attending…this means an early start but you can sleep on the car ride! We will depart from the Old Brick Store in Charlotte at 5:45AM on September 20th! The goal is to hit the first ferry to NY at 6AM\, which should get us to the start by about 7:20 or 7:25 (race starts are 8AM for women and 8:10AM for men). SUMMARY:1st Annual(?) Reverse Stowe Derby
DESCRIPTION:Saturday will be the first (annual?) Reverse Stowe Derby! This is a joint workout with Craftsbury and VTXC. We will be joined by Craftsbury coach Anna Schultz (hey\, she sounds familiar!) and Rick Costanza (hey\, he sounds familiar!) for a skate rollerski from downtown Stowe up the bike path to the base of the Toll Rd. From there we will switch to running gear en route to the top of Mt Mansfield! On the run down we can jump in the Bingham Falls swimming hole before a picnic along the park-side bike path! \nAny MNC summer participants (both 2- and 5-day members)\, BKL skiers and Masters are welcome and encouraged to join in – for those that have not rollerskied yet there will be a ‘hike-only’ group. The plan right now is to gather at the Stowe Community Church at 8:30am for rollerski group\, and the base of the Toll Rd at 9:30am for the hike-only group. We hope participants can bring a dish to share at the picnic afterward! \nThe Reverse Stowe Derby caps off 2 volume weeks in a row\, a big push for great summer training!

SUMMARY:First Day Junior Summer Training
DESCRIPTION:For many years the Mansfield Nordic summer programs have been the bread-and-butter of the club. This summer our options for great training are similar to the programs of years past\, with scheduling and pricing much the same.  In addition\, a limited amount of roller ski rentals are available.  \nThe 2-day/week Intro program will be focused on athletes new to rollerskiing\, with sessions at the car-free paved loop at the Ethan Allen Firing Range. Athletes in this program will develop skills like balance\, agility and safe handling of rollerskis\, and have the opportunity to work with experienced coaches. Practices will not be entirely rollerski focused\, however\, and there will be ample opportunity to also train alongside Comp Team athletes and take part in runs\, drills\, games and strength-building. \nThe 5-day/week Comp program will be focused on high-level training for more experienced rollerskiers and athletes with strong training backgrounds. Workouts will take place alongside the Intro team at the Range on Tues/Thurs\, and across Chittenden County and beyond during other days.  This group will build a strong fitness base through intervals\, long-distance workouts\, strength sessions and cross-training opportunities.  \nFor experienced rollerskiers\, we have also connected with the Ethan Allen Biathlon club to have Range access on Tues/Thurs afternoons as well as mornings to accommodate skiers with work or travel constraints (note that coach Terko will likely be the only coach at these sessions\, therefore it is limited to experienced rollerskiers pending further coaching additions!).

DESCRIPTION:Join Mansfield Nordic in a fun event that combines spring cleaning\, fundraising and a fun community event! This yardsale will take place at the Longenbach house on June 6th as part of a larger\, community-wide sale in Williston’s Southridge neighborhood. \nMNC families may donate goods to sell on Friday afternoon from 4pm to 7pm. Donations could be ski- or sport-specific or just quality household items…for example\, coach Adam is looking to part with a waffle iron and some T-shirts. Items will be sorted and priced for sale the next day\, and all proceeds will go toward the club! Volunteers to help sort and price items on Friday evening are welcome; see volunteer sign-up link below. \nThe main event will take place on Saturday\, when the big sale gets underway.
