DESCRIPTION:Last year on a dark winter evening\, a line of blazing tiki torches stretched from the gate of Smuggler’s Notch in Jeffersonville upward along the snowy road. With a trail illuminated by the bright flames\, MNC skiers turned a cold and snowy evening into a memorable experience…one we are looking to bring back even bigger and better this year! \nJoin us on Friday\, December 8th for the second-ever MNC Torchlight Notch Ski! We will have torches set up by nightfall. After the ski\, we invite participants to join us at the John house in Underhill for a winter gathering. \nWhat: MNC Torchlight Notch Ski \nWhere: Smuggler’s Notch\, Rt 108 in Jeffersonville\, VT. Torches will line the Jeffersonville side of the Notch\, though skiers are welcome to ski in from the Stowe side! Parking is available at the top of Rt 108 where the gate closes off the road. The Annual Meeting will begin with a potluck meal and the MNC program presentation followed by a multi-media presentation by World Master Champion\, JoAnn Hanowski   called “Skiing across Finland and Beyond”. \nThe MNC Annual Meeting is open free of charge to all interested Nordic skiing enthusiasts. Please RSVP by November 9th. \n \nRSVP  & Potluck Sign-Up Here\nSchedule:\n2;00 pm – 4:00 pm  Drop off food dishes for Potluck meal at the Underhill Town Hall in Underhill Center.\n2:30 pm – 3:50pm   Hash Run  at  70 Maple Rd\, Underhill VT(see directions below)\n4:00pm – 6:00pm: Pot Luck meal and MNC program presentation at the  Underhill Town Hall  followed by guest speaker presentation and raffle. \nWhat is a Hash Run?\nA hash run is designed to engage runners of all ages and levels to follow a marked course with many options but only one correct route to finish.  A very fun event for all abilities  Or more specifically… \nAt a hash\, one or more members (“hares”) lay a trail\, which is then followed by the remainder of the group (the “pack” or “hounds”). Sawdust\, flour\, chalk\, and toilet paper are used to mark the trail. The trail periodically ends at a “check” and the pack must find where it begins again; often the trail includes false trails\, short cuts\, dead ends\, back checks\, and splits. These features are designed to keep the pack together despite differences in fitness level or running speed\, as front-runners are forced to slow down to find the “true” trail\, allowing stragglers to catch up. \nDirections to 70 Maple Leaf Rd:\nDrive up Stevensville Rd in Underhill Center\, take a left turn at Maple Leaf Farm onto Maple Leaf Road. Continue for ¾ mile up around the sharp curve to the 1st house on the right. \n

DESCRIPTION:Calling all MNC athletes…this weekend the Junior team is doing the Bolton Hillclimb running test\, which is an event that happens a few times each year. This is a challenging but very low-key “race” that begins at the upper base lodge of Bolton Valley and goes up the Jeep/Maintenance road to the summit of the Vista chairlift. It’s anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes of uphill that is a great test of aerobic capacity and a great workout one way or another 🙂 \nMasters are welcome to join in this event this coming Saturday: we’ll meet at the upper base lodge parking lot at 9AM and plan to start the test at 9:45AM! \nAs always a pint of Ben and Jerry’s is on the line for anyone who can break the current course records of 14:05 (Tim Cobb) and 17:44 (Eliza Thomas)! \nBolton Hillclimb Historical Archive

Come join MNC coaches and fellow Masters skiers in a rollerski clinic and demo day at Williston Central School on September 30th from 3-4:30pm.  Meet at bike path at the rear of the school near the soccer fields.  \nWe’ll have an array of skate rollerskis available to try\, and coaches on-hand to help you fine-tune your balance and technique. Thanks to the flat\, car-free bike path and loop around the soccer fields\, you can ski with confidence. Experienced Masters rollerskiers can also use this time to get a group session in. \nAnd for post-workout recovery? SUMMARY:Climb to the Castle Rollerski Race
DESCRIPTION:Join MNC for a race trip to the popular Climb to the Castle rollerski race in beautiful Lake Placid\, NY! It might not be the traditional way to climb a mountain\, but this is one way to tackle an Adirondack 46’er! \n \nThe race begins early in the morning on Sunday\, September 24th. For this event\, MNC will offer a race trip that departs the day prior to make a mini training camp out of the weekend. \nWe will depart from the Buffalo Wild Wings/Price Chopper parking lot at 1pm on Saturday the 23rd. Once in Lake Placid\, we’ll go for a rollerski on the scenic River Road near the ski jumps. We’ll then make ourselves at home at the High Peaks Basecamp Lodge right in the heart of town. We’ll have a study-hall period for schoolwork\, and a session in the yoga studio at the neighboring High Peaks Cyclery. With a large kitchen in the house\, we’ll make a team dinner and get ready to race the next day! \nOn race day we’ll have the luxury of waking up at a normal hour (vs the earliest ferry from VT) and making a hearty breakfast before competing in the race. After the event\, we’ll have lunch in town and go for a trail run or mountain bike ride on some nearby trails before heading back to VT. \nRegistration for this trip includes lodging\, meals\, transportation\, and support at our 2 training sessions outside the race. \nMNC Registration: Climb to the Castle Race Trip \nThe MNC registration form DOES NOT INCLUDE RACE REGISTRATION: please be sure to register for the race itself on the SkiReg site HERE.
