SUMMARY:HURT Nordic Mid-A JNQ
DESCRIPTION:On January 19th MNC athletes have the option to travel to Gore Mountain in New York to compete in a Mid-Atlantic JNQ race. While this race does not count toward our own New England JN qualification\, it’s a great opportunity to race in a new place and experience some different competition. For MNC racers not competing in high school races this is a perfect race to get tuned-up for the following week’s Eastern Cup in Lake Placid. \nMNC has a house rented in Chestertown\, NY the night of Friday\, Jan 18th. Our plan is to depart from VT on Friday afternoon and make the roughly 2-hour drive to Chestertown. We’ll prepare skis and cook dinner that night\, and compete in the 5km classic race Saturday morning. \nEvent details\, registration\, and schedule can be found HERE \nLink to register for MNC race trip (travel\, lodging\, meals\, wax support) can be found HERE \nOur beautiful rented home in Chestertown\, NY. Let’s hope it looks a little snowier when we arrive 🙂

SUMMARY:Stowe Derby
DESCRIPTION:20km Long Course\, Freestyle & Classic\n– 6km Short Course\, Freestyle & Classic\nThe 2019 Stowe Derby will be held on Sunday\, January 13th! We have will have the traditional date of February 24th as a contingency plan if January 13th does not happen. Bib pickup\, après party\, and awards ceremony at the Town & Country\, where we’ll enjoy chili\, beer and raffle prizes. \nThe Stowe Derby is one of the oldest and most unique ski races in North America. It started in 1945 as a personal bet between two amazing skiers: Sepp Ruschp\, an Austrian\, and the head of Stowe’s new ski school\, and Erling Strom\, a world famous mountaineer from Norway. Their challenge was simple: a race from the top of Mt. Mansfield\, Vermont’s highest peak to the historic village of Stowe\, on a single pair of skis. The ultimate test of a skier’s ability. Ruschp was the winner of the first Stowe Derby.

SUMMARY:Eastern Cup #1: Craftsbury
DESCRIPTION:From Craftsbury: \nThe Craftsbury Outdoor Center is thrilled to welcome back the NENSA Eastern Cup Opener on December 22-23\, 2018. The Opener is an all-freestyle affair this year\, with a 1.5k sprint on Saturday\, December 22\, and a 5k mass start for women and U16 boys and a 10k mass start for men (U18+). Masters waves are back\, heading off 5 minutes after the open mass start fields. \nThis season the Outdoor Center is hosting the U.S. Cross Country Championships two weeks after the Eastern Cup\, so the Opener is serving as a dry run for two of the events coming up at the national championships. As such we are expecting larger-than-average fields for the EC Opener. There should be a large contingent of collegiate and elite skiers in attendance\, as well as our top juniors\, who will use the races as Junior Nationals qualifiers. \nRegistration will be on SkiReg.com. \nNENSA publishes all race-related information for Eastern Cups at their website. We’ll post some basics on the Craftsbury website\, like a schedule\, but ultimately\, their site must be considered authoritative for ease of communication if nothing else.

SUMMARY:Craftsbury Sprint Doubleheader
DESCRIPTION:From Craftsbury: \nWe are excited to invite collegiate skiers\, juniors\, masters\, and elite racers to the Craftsbury Sprint Doubleheader this year! Classic sprints on Saturday\, December 15 and freestyle sprints on Sunday\, December 16. We are using the events as test runs on our newly reworked 1.5k sprint course\, which will serve as the sprint course for 2019 US Cross Country Championships starting January 3. This event counts for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s National Ranking List (NRL)\, so competitors will earn NRL points based on their qualifier position each day. \nSaturday’s classic sprints will follow a standard sprint format. After the morning’s qualifiers\, the top 30 male and female competitors will move on to the open heats. We will hold master’s heats for the top 6 male and female masters. There will also be U16 and U18/20 heats for the top 12 of each gender in those categories. \nOn Sunday\, for freestyle sprints\, the top 30 men and women will again move on to the open rounds. After that\, we are trying out a new format for the next 30 competitors of each gender\, a Queen’s Court. Racers in the Queen’s Court will race twice more\, and if they finish in the top two of their heat they will move up a heat\, and vice versa if they finish in the bottom two. We are excited to bring this format to New England and see racers of all age groups race together on Sunday afternoon. \nMore information on the Craftsbury Sprint Doubleheader\, including a detailed schedule\, is available on our website. Then scoot on over to SkiReg to sign up!
