SUMMARY:Intro Rollerski Clinic #1
DESCRIPTION:Join MNC for an introductory rollerski clinic focused on learning the basics of safety (turning\, slowing\, stopping\, climbing)\, equipment maintenance\, and road awareness. This clinic is not age-specific…if you’re a BKL skier who has never tried rollerskiing\, or a Masters skier who has always wanted to give it a go\, this is for you! \nWant to learn how to snowplow without the snow?  \nReady to see the fastest snow-to-rollerski pole tip changeover ever?  \nLooking to expand your off-season possibilities?  \nMNC will have a selection of rollerskis available to try (NNN/Prolink-compatible boots preferred) and it is recommended participants bring their personal boots and poles. Much of this intro clinic will be completed without poles\, and rollerski pole tips are recommended but not required. \nWe will meet in the Allen Brook School parking lot at 1pm\, getting our feet/wheels under us on flat and open terrain before heading out to the nearby bike paths. \nOur favorite rollerski apparel is a bright\, visible shirt! \nRSVP for June 11 Clinic \n \n

SUMMARY:MNC 25k in May Rollerski for Juniors + Masters
DESCRIPTION:Join the MNC Juniors on Sunday\, May 29th to ski 25km (or more!) on the flat and rolling terrain of Kingsland Bay. We will meet at the Ferrisburgh Central School at 9am\, where there’s ample parking. The Juniors will be classic skiing/double poling but any technique is fine. After the ski\, submit your entry for the NENSA 25k in May event!

SUMMARY:Quarantine Uphill Challenge (May 1-3)
DESCRIPTION:Now a NENSA event! \nWith the running season starting in earnest for many of us\, it’s time to collectively rally toward a goal. We may not be able to gather in person\, but Virtual Races  \n \nhave become a way for athletes to stick to some familiar territory (the competitive side) regardless of the social distance between them.  \nFor the ultimate in socially-distant masochism\, look no further than the recently-completed Quarantine Backyard Ultra\, won by Mike Wardian after running 262.5 miles worth of 4-mile loops in his neighborhood. \nOur new challenge for Spring 2020 is not quite as epic in terms of length…but you WILL notice that the quarantine ultramarathon race came down to 2 competitors\, one on a treadmill and the other (Wardian) running on a flat loop in Arlington\, VA. What’s lacking here? That’s right\, some UPHILL! \nOur MNC training year often starts off with a grueling workout: the Bolton Uphill Run Test. We use this test to gauge fitness several times in the year…often once in the spring\, twice in the summer\, and once or twice in the fall. It’s not unheard of for the first test of the year (May) to involve scrambling over some un-melted snow\, just as we’re equally likely to have snow falling on our heads during the final test of the year in October or November. We keep a long-running archive of tests to track fitness. \nIn this time of COVID-19\, we are putting the challenge out there for New England skiers to run their own uphill test to kick-off May. Much like NENSA’s Club Cup and Zak Cup\, this is a challenge for everyone! You’ll find the rules to be quite forgiving when it comes to the “uphill” requirements. Read more below: \nWhat: MNC Quarantine Uphill Run Challenge  \nWhen: May 1st\, 2nd\, or 3rd (Fri/Sat/Sun) \nRules: Run your own uphill test\, on foot\, as fast as you can. The requirements for this test?  \n-Race must finish higher than it started: a net elevation gain. No minimum or maximum on the elevation gained…it can even finish just going up your driveway if that’s higher than the surrounding road! \n-Race has to be on foot…no faster means of transportation like a bike\, or even rollerskis..!  \n-Race cannot take place on closed trail systems such as the Long Trail or local MTB networks. Please respect the closures from our trail stewards\, and focus on roads (paved or dirt).  \n-Use the form below to submit your race data\, including (optional) Strava or other fitness-tracker details as well as photos. We will have awards for all sorts of catagories including most elevation gained\, fastest 2-mile course\, most creative route\, and best race photo (can be staged).   \nResults Submission Form \nSubmissions due by Monday\, May 4th. Time to start planning your ultimate uphill test! \n \n

SUMMARY:Cochran's MNC Trivia Night!
DESCRIPTION:What is the event? \nThe event is a dinner and goofy trivia night\, with themes and questions designed for all ages and categories…not just skiing! \nWhere/When is the event? \nThe event is at the Cochran Ski Lodge\, 910 Cochran Road\, Richmond\, VT. Dinner begins at 6pm\, with trivia beginning at 7:30. MNC members will provide potluck appetizers and deserts\, and the club will be grilling burgers and hot dogs. \nThe club will also be providing non-alcoholic drinks. The event is BYOB for alcoholic beverages\, but there will be a keg of local beer available for a $4 donation to our van. \nHow can I participate? \nWe are asking MNC members to be a captain and form their own teams of six people that would be part of your goofy trivia team.  Ideally\, each team of six would have some non-MNC members (eg. friends\, family\, etc.).  Each team member pays to participate.  Adults pay $20.00\, children pay $10.00.  As the team captain\, you collect money from your team and then register your team through the MNC website.  As a captain\, you are also asked to come up with a theme for your team and represent that theme.  Prizes will be awarded to the team or teams with the best theme.  Prizes will also be awarded to the top trivia teams. \nHow should I market this event to my friends and family? \nAsk your friends and family if they would be interested in participating in a fund raiser where they get dinner\, music\, and play goofy trivia as a team.  The goofy trivia is a team activity; it is not individual.  During goofy trivia\, teams have time to discuss what they think is the correct answer and provide one answer that represents the entire team.  It should be a night of good food and good laughs. \nHow soon should I get my team registered? \nWe are asking all teams are registered by Thursday\, October 24th. \nA signup form can be found HERE\nSee you at Cochrans! \n \n
