SUMMARY:Skis due for Caldwell Sport stonegrinding
DESCRIPTION:September is well underway\, and it’s time for the annual ski grinding action! \nMNC delivers skis to Caldwell Sport in Putney for stonegrinding. \n \nWhat is stonegrinding? Put simply\, stonegrinding removes an incredibly thin top layer of your ski base while also applying a new pattern. This is all done with an incredibly-expensive\, finely-tuned machine using special stones\, depths\, speeds\, and pressures. If it sounds complicated\, that’s because it is! But you only need to know the outcome\, which is that a freshly stoneground ski will: \n-Be much much easier to wax because the base will be flat and even. This means it will be faster \n-Hold wax better due to this even distribution of material and opened “pores” that were previously damaged by heat from irons or corks \n-Repel moisture better with a new pattern and structure \nMost skiers only assume that stonegrinding “gets the scratches out” and while this is true for very minor dings and blemishes\, stonegrinding won’t necessarily make a base look perfectly new. And more often than not\, it isn’t the scratches that are slowing your ski down: it’s all those passes with an iron\, all that dirt that you can’t see in the base\, and all the uneven rises and falls at a minuscule level from repeated use and abuse. \nWith the transition to non-fluoro racing\, flat bases and fast bases have never been more critical. \nHere is a simple rule: \nIf your skis have not been stoneground and you have raced on them for two years in a row\, they should probably get ground before this season. Even if they do not have scratches\, they are likely to have thermal damage and wear. This is ESPECIALLY true for race skis\, which have likely seen a lot of action from hot irons and roto-implements used in racing.  \nOur coaches have some detailed knowledge of Junior skis from the past race season\, so if you are a Junior and are interested to know if you’d benefit from some stonegrinding please reach out. Masters\, don’t hesitate to reach out either! \nSo\, how does this all work? \n1) Fill out the form below to indicate # of pairs\, grind options\, and personal info by SEPTEMBER 30th \n2) Deliver skis to Adam any time before SEPTEMBER 30th (reach out to coordinate a drop-off)\, or stop by the MNCC on Wednesday evenings between 5 and 8pm to drop-off at our headquarters!  \n3) Adam will drive skis down to Caldwell Sport\, and pick them up when done (usually before Thanksgiving) \n4) Individuals will be billed by the club and can submit payment via all our usual means (online form\, or check made out to MNC) \n5) Stonegrind cost includes rate for grinding\, plus transport of skis to/from Putney and the involved labor/admin steps. Individual grinds from Caldwell Sport are $100/pair\, but with a batch of skis from our club there should be a discount. The more skis we bring\, the bigger the discount! \nSkis will be returned to owners upon receiving payment \nNeed some suggestions for grinds? Zach helped lay out his best options for various numbers of skis and I have utilized that info on the form. If you only have one skate or classic pair\, for example\, chose the “Universal” option. Most of us\, if we have a 2nd pair of either skate or classic\, are utilizing a specific “warm” pair which is also an option to select. \nMNC Caldwell Grind Order ’24 \nLooking for used skis\, or looking to part with skis or gear? Mark your calendars for the MNC Ski and Gear Swap on October 12 (dropoff) and 13th (swap)  \nA typical MNC batch lined-up for loading and delivery in Adam’s garage!

Experienced U14 skiers are able to attend with coach permission. \nRollerskiing at U16 Mountain Camp in 2023 \nOften the first training camp experience for skiers of this age\, U16 Mountain Camp is focused on exploring new places and building connections with friends and teammates. \nSkate rollerski experience is necessary\, primarily from a safety perspective. The final makeup and experience of our camp group will determine how much rollerskiing factors into our schedule\, but at least some time will be devoted to the activity. We’ll also enjoy trail running\, hiking\, ski bounding\, and maybe even mountain biking if there’s an interest. \nU16 Mountain Camp has space for up to 10 athletes\, and is led by Coach Adam and Coach Kristen! SUMMARY:Skirack/Swenor Rollerski Orders Due
DESCRIPTION:MNC members and skiers\, \nSkirack has put together some special pricing for us with rollerskis! You can order Swenor skis from Skirack at the link below\, with submissions due May 13th. \nNote the inclusion of some #2/#3 speed wheel options on the Fiberglass Classic model…if you have been rollerskiing for a few years now (say\, if this is going to be your second pair of classic rollerskis) this slightly-slower wheelspeed is recommended as it is much more relatable to actual classic skiing. Double poling is more realistic\, and striding work is more effective. \nThe Fiberglass model also comes in a standard #2 front and back speed\, and all other models are #2 speed. \nOn the order form\, you can check out specific notes on models and descriptions which I put together. You can also view those descriptions directly by clicking here. \nClick the link below to submit your form for ski ordering through Skirack! Orders are due May 13th. \nSkirack Swenor Order Form

SUMMARY:Toko/Swix Team Orders Due
DESCRIPTION:We are grateful once again for our awesome partnership with Toko wax and tools. Toko helps provide our club and members with all sorts of great Nordic products\, from gloves and hats to wax and irons. \nEach year\, we receive two special order forms for Toko products: one for gloves/softgoods and one for wax/hardgoods. \n\nOur members receive 30% everything through Toko\, and 25% off Swix\, on the order forms below.\nThe form is filled out by interested members and brought to Skirack.\nSkirack fills the order and calls/emails when the order is in.\n\nThis is a once-per-year opportunity\, so please consider what you’d like for the entirety of the 2023/2024 ski season! \nORDERS ARE DUE TO SKIRACK BY NOVEMBER 5TH\, 2023\nClick below to download the forms: \nRS Nordic Gloves 2324 (gloves/softgoods)\nRSNordic2324 (was/hardgoods)\nSwixTeamPricing23-24\nWhat does MNC recommend? \nFirst off\, feel free to visit www.tokous.com for more product details. We receive a lot of club support from Toko (in addition to this order form) so we encourage our members to purchase from Toko whenever possible! \nFor wax and tools\, a complete set of the standard grip waxes (base\, blue\, red\, yellow) will serve you well. We often train on warmer waxes like Toko Red and Toko Yellow given our regional trends. These waxes are sold in a kit which includes a scraper and a cork\, which is very convenient. \n \nA cork is necessary for kickwaxing\, and a synthetic cork is recommended. \nWe also use a lot of klister in New England…Toko makes a base\, blue\, red (universal)\, and yellow klister. One of each is recommended\, but you can also pick up handy spray versions of these waxes. \nFor glide wax\, sprays can be very easy…apply\, let them dry\, and brush to polish…you’re done! These waxes come in three different colors based on temp and snowtype…and like the gripwax\, they are also available in a kit. \n \nYou’ll notice that the kit still contains a block of Toko Base Performance Blue. This is because after a few spray waxings\, it is important to treat your bases with a “traditional” hot wax job. Think of spray waxes like drinking\, and hot waxes like eating…you can go for a while just on hydration\, but sooner or later your ski bases will need to eat! \nGlide waxing with a traditional paraffin block requires an iron\, a scraper\, and a stiff brush. Toko sells all of these at various price points. It is highly recommended that you wax with a dedicated ski waxing iron (not your clothes iron) for good temperature control and heat distribution. \nWhat about gloves?  \nWe’ve tried all of the Toko gloves\, and they offer a great system. Which is best? \nIf you had to get one pair\, the Toko Thermo Plus offers good insulation and warmth without compromising grip characteristics. A slightly lighter version\, the Toko Thermo Race\, also provides some good wind blocking with less overall bunk. \nFor cold hands\, the Toasty Thermo Mitten is the warmest nordic ski glove/mitten product that we have ever experienced! \nFor those that prefer the ultimate in ski pole feel and light weight\, the Toko Profi is a favorite among racers. \nNico with the Toko Profi glove \n
