After a bit of research done by Heidi Hill (thank you Heidi!)\, Coach Rosemary has blocked out a dozen rooms at the Royalty Inn in Gorham\, NH for MNC families to reserve. Gorham is the closest town to Great Glen.\n\n-The Royalty Inn has use of a pool in the health club next door and while there is no restaurant in the Inn\, there are  a couple of good restaurants for breakfast and dinner very nearby.\n\n-The rooms are $89-$99/night plus tax and fees.  Club members should call 800-437-3529 or (603) 466-3312 and ask for one of the rooms under the Mansfield Nordic room block and give their credit card info to reserve a room under their own name. There are currently 7 rooms with double queen beds\, 3 rooms with a double bed & a twin bed and a room which has 3 double beds.  Call soon!

The final races this weekend with occur at Trapps in Stowe. \nFor those new to the EC circuit\, here’s a Parent Primer on EC Racing: http://www.mansfieldnordic.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/MNCParentPrimer.pdf). \nOn Saturday (2/6)\, we will also be joined by the BK Race team who will be practicing/racing from 9am -12pm with Coach Rosemary and of course\, cheering on the U16 and U18 MNC racers. Thus\, lots of hungry mouths to feed…..so here is the link to the potluck signup: (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0e48aba928a3f85-mansfield1). \nSATURDAY: We need a couple of families to volunteer to bring a warm\, protein filled soup or chile for lunch. (I have a large crock pot if anyone needs to borrow one and Adam will supply a generator for power).  Other families can fill in with healthy snacks/muffins\, etc. I will bring a large hot water dispenser for hot chocolate as well as coffee/cream/sugar along with the paper goods needed for the potluck (bowls\, spoons\, napkins but do bring your own travel mug\, if possible). \nSUNDAY: I can bring a large chile for lunch….maybe someone else can bring a soup? Again others can fill in with snacks and other foods. \nPlease do remember to bring your own travel mug for coffee/mochas so we can be a GREEN as possible – thanks! If there is something that you want to bring that is not on the sign up\, please let me know and I can add so that the food remains (somewhat!) coordinated. \n  \nThanks everyone for your potluck contribution – looking forward to our last EC race of the season and to watching our new rising MNC racers! \n

DESCRIPTION:We are on this Friday Dec. 11\, for Day 1 at our new location!  Danny Clayton  and Eric Barker and the MMU nordic team have been working hard to get our new trails cleared and set for the Friday Foxes to hit the trails.  Meet us by the baseball dugout behind the school at 3:40 so we can explore the new trails\, play lots of games and choreograph a snow dance. \n \nPlease come prepared with appropriate shoes to run and play\, warm clothes\, rain jackets\,  and/or hats & mittens\,  we will not let a little rain and cold weather scare us away.   Please keep an eye on your email for possible cancellations. DESCRIPTION:Join Coach Adam for an on-snow clinic all about teaching technique! We will go over drills from an introductory to expert level\, and have some fun trying them out on ourselves. DESCRIPTION:Bring your skis to the Henry/Solow house for an afternoon of ski waxing and hotbox treatment…the best way to get your skis prepared for the upcoming season! Our hot box is a high-quality piece of equipment crafted by Don Harmeyer and built based on Zach Caldwell’s exacting specifications! \nThis event will feature lunch and snacks. \nCoach Adam will give a short talk on how the hotbox works and what the results are for your skis\, as well as a quick wax clinic. Tables\, profiles\, irons and tools will be provided (thanks Toko!). \nThere will be some wax on hand\, but you are encouraged to bring your own warm/yellow glide wax and colder/blue glide wax. \n \n(note: this is not the actual MNC hotbox)

If you didn’t get an Evite invitation\, please send your updated email to sue.bentlage@comcast.net \nTo Sign Up for the Potluck click here.  \nWhat is a Hash Run?\nA hash run is designed to engage runners of all ages and levels to follow a marked course with many options but only one correct route to finish.  A very fun event for all abilities  Or more specifically… \nAt a hash\, one or more members (“hares”) lay a trail\, which is then followed by the remainder of the group (the “pack” or “hounds”). Sawdust\, flour\, chalk\, and toilet paper are used to mark the trail. The trail periodically ends at a “check” and the pack must find where it begins again; often the trail includes false trails\, short cuts\, dead ends\, back checks\, and splits. These features are designed to keep the pack together despite differences in fitness level or running speed\, as front-runners are forced to slow down to find the “true” trail\, allowing stragglers to catch up. \nPavel Cenkl\nPavel\, a faculty member in Environmental Humanities at Sterling College\, went the extra mile for climate resilience—171 extra miles!\nCenkl will take us on his 275 km (170.8 mile)\, 3-day solo run across Iceland\, from the Atlantic to the Arctic\, in June 2015 to highlight the role that athletes and adventurers play in building climate resistance. His multi-media presentation will be on interest to any outdoor enthusiast. The run follows an ancient Viking path along both trails and roads among rivers\, waterfalls\, glaciers\, thermal springs\, and through a high desert. Cenkl chose Iceland for this project because “the Arctic is among the places on earth where climate change is most apparent and most pronounced. \n \n  \n

Join in for a hike up  Mt Mansfield on Sunday\, November 1st\, to celebrate NENSA’s Peak Weekend event! \n \nThis fundraiser/friendly competition encourages ski clubs all over New England to summit mountains on Halloween weekend and share photos from their trip. The club with the largest percentage of members atop a peak will receive a special “Peak Weekend” flag for their district at the BKL Festival in spring! There are also lots of other prizes and ways to participate\, including a trail-mix recipe contest…any top MNC chefs out there? \nLearn more about the event by clicking HERE \nJoin MNC coaches Adam\, Rosemary and Rick in Underhill to reach the top of Mount Mansfield…it only makes sense that our club climbs the peak of our namesake! \nFor meeting up: \n\nMeet at the Stevensville Road trailhead parking lot at 9:30am\n\nVarious groups can take a few different trails based on ability and experience.
