Training experiments

This past week the Juniors had a recovery block to absorb all the tough training from Mountain Camp. In order to mix things up a bit, we added some new games and challenges to the end of practice on both Tuesday and Thursday.

Since water guns turned out to be a big hit at Mountain Camp, I picked up two higher quality firearms (these were $1 apiece, not 3-for-$1) at Christmas Tree Shops. With paper cups as targets we all got a little practice in and then lined up for a Squirt Gun Biathlon Relay. Two-person teams, with penalty laps for missed cups, led to a lot of chaos and excitement. Of course Timmy was the best among us!

On Thursday we took off the rollerskis and spent the last part of practice on some REAL snow skis. First we did some light bounding, then progressed right onto the winter boards for some grass skiing. It’s surprisingly similar to real skiing, as the short video and photos below show!

This week we’ll be back to a higher volume of training, culminating in the MNC Trail Run and BBQ this Saturday. That’s right, it’s coming up fast! You know you want to be a part of it, and you likely haven’t signed up yet! Here’s a link to do so. See you at the race!
